Music

Concert Band

is a full year instrumental performance-based group. Areas of study include proper playing technique, tone production, ear training, sight reading, and reading music notation. We will emphasize and practice foundational ensemble playing principles. Students will be introduced to a wide range of musical styles all under the guiding principle that music is a gift from God and should be explored and performed with the intent to honor and glorify Him. Though we will examine the concepts of sacred and secular music, we will focus on the principle that all truth is of God, analyzing both secular and sacred sources for not only musical integrity but truth as well.


Choir

is a full year vocal performance-based group. Areas of study include proper vocal technique, vowel placement, tone production, ear training, sight reading, tonal memory and reading music notation. We will also explore the biblical foundations of worship through music. Students will be introduced to a wide range of musical styles all under the guiding principle that music is a gift from God and should be explored and performed with the intent to honor and glorify Him. Though we will examine the concepts of sacred and secular music, we will focus on the principle that all truth is of God, analyzing both secular and sacred sources for not only musical integrity but truth as well.


Contemporary Music Ensemble

is a full year performance based group open by audition only. Emphasis will be on the preparation of two types of presentations: Worship service programs and worship performance in the public forum. Repertoire will be chosen according to the composition of the group and be varied in style, time period and origination, with an emphasis on truth and excellence. Areas of study will include band arrangement, analysis of lyrical integrity and musical form, and a deep look at principles for ensemble playing which include but is not limited to: the 100% rule, the KISS principle, the 3 "P's of Comping", the fundamental zone, and harmonic rhythm techniques. We will also explore the biblical foundations of worship through music as well as basic concepts of worship leading. This group will perform outside Veritas as opportunities arise.


Biblical Worship and Music Appreciation

With an emphasis on Church Music History and Biblical Foundations of Worship, this course would:

  • Explore the biblical foundations of worship
  • Study the corporate worship experience, introducing historical worship philosophy and including present day worship trends
  • Introduce contemporary World Music trends and influences
  • Overview general music history from 1450 to present day
  • Equip the student to analyze secular and sacred music under the principle that all truth is of God
  • Explore the concepts studied through appropriate field trip experiences
